I suck at cooking, finding consensus, expressing my ideas, hand crafts, flirting, exercising regularly, keeping in touch with loved ones, accepting defeat, among many other lots of things.
I suck at all sports, and poker. I suck at cleaning, washing and organizing priorities. I have no taste whatsoever when it comes to clothes, shoes, or anything you put on. I take people for granted, I exaggerate and I lie from time to time just to draw attention.
I can’t hold my liquor. I suck at first impressions. I suck at eating healthy and at every possible activity related to nature: from camping to climbing to trekking, I am absolutely lame.
I’m good at travel planning.
I spent a weekend at Lille for 20 euros. I paid 35 euros for a roundtrip plane ticket to Venice, and then 30 euros per night at a three star hotel in the heart of the city. I manage to find the best tour guides, the best parties and the best hidden corners and pleasures of every city I visit. I took 25 people to the south of France, transport, housing and food for less than 100 euros per person. Within a single month, I did 29 cities in 7 different countries. I slept at 9 different places and was hosted by 16 different people. I have taken over 100 people in total to weekends, daytrips, romantic getaways, get-togethers, soul searching and pilgrimage. Bus, train, plane, boat, walking. This is the one thing I’m good at.
It took me 30 seconds to find 20 things that I can’t do right, and after travel planning, it took me 5 minutes to find something else I’m good at: hosting people at my place. And I think there is room for debate.
Everybody has one thing where they’re good at. It can be gossiping. It can be sex. MMORPG. Solitaire. History of the ants. Math. Heavy drinking. Running. Writing, Italian, joking. Maybe you’re funny, or very serious, or a straight talker, a loud mouth, a bully, a victimizer, a guilt inducer, but you’re good at it. You can be good at killing people, at lying, at stealing or at loving, at giving yourself away, at parkour, baseball or wine tasting. Without judging, you can find something that you do better than most people. I shall be forbidden from traveling if I'm wrong.
